　古本屋で平岡正明の1978年発行の『クロスオーバー音楽塾』を買った。平岡も今年亡くなったが、1941年1月生まれだったから68歳だった。長命とは言えないな。過激な評論と泥臭い浪花節が相まって、人気の作家であった。彼の著書20冊くらいは読んだ。『山口百恵は菩薩である』という本が好きだったが、友だちが持っていったまま30年が過ぎた。まぁ、それはそれでいい。彼のホラ話が多いから。それでも、どこか共感できる部分があった。
　この本は、ジャズ喫茶でのディスクジョッキーを収録したもの。音楽とそれにまつわる話を記録したもの。言いたいことを言ってるが、こちらもそのつもりで聞いているので、楽しい。パーカーの「エンブレイサブル・ユー」から始まるが、色々脱線する。今回は、懐かしいアレックス・ヘイリーの『ルーツ』をこき下ろしていた。今の人には、あの連続テレビドラマのことなど分からないだろうが、私たちはほとんど全部見たのだろう。そして、原作も読んだ。さらには、クインシー・ジョーンズのサントラまで買ってしまった。
　平岡の毒が強すぎて、何事にも知識がありすぎるような書き方は、くどいので少しずつ読むに限る。でも、少しずつだと飽きてきて、全部読まないうちに、ぽいと捨ててしまう。『ジャズより他に神はなし』など、探して探して、めぐり合って購入した割にはほとんど読んでいない。
　そういえば、トルーマン・カポーティの自伝的な本もどこに行ったか。今になって読みたくなった。探してみよう。
